Melanie was a caring and loving person to all who knew her. Unity, love, and respect
are proven in her life and death. She credited her family for her moral upbringing,
motivating her to strive for excellence, to succeed in school, and to become a role
model for her younger brother.
She was involved in numerous extracurricular activities, including the Hiking and CT
Pre-Engineering clubs. Melanie was Sophomore Class President, Junior Class Prom
Chair, and Senior Class Fundraising Chair. She was also a four-year varsity letter
athlete in soccer, basketball, and softball. She was a member of her church youth
group and volunteered as a Bulkeley High School underclassmen tutor. She also
volunteered her time to disabled students at Bulkeley, bringing them hope and joy
everyday!
Her greatest accomplishment in the Latino community was being crowned Miss San
Juan of Connecticut, 1998. During her reign, she participated in numerous statewide
events and charitable contributions including American Red Cross blood drives and the
Drug Abuse Resistance Education Program (DARE). She strongly believed in giving
back to the community while encouraging people to “set goals…and strive to make
them true”, and to “follow your dreams…maintain a positive attitude…become a strong
Latina(o) role model for the children of the community.”
While at Bulkeley High School, Melanie was a four-year honor roll student, and was
admitted to the University of Connecticut in hopes of becoming a veterinarian. Not only
did she promote leadership, maintain high academic standards, and serve as a voice
for the Latino community; Melanie touched people’s lives while passing on her beautiful
smile.
Melanie Rosado is a prime example of a strong Latina woman who has made a
tremendous impact on families and communities in Connecticut. She has proven to be
a hero and mentor to many. Although she is no longer with us in body, she lives on in
spirit and through her memory as an Honorary Sister of Lambda Theta Alpha Latin
Sorority, Inc. We honor her brief, yet remarkable existence on earth as she has moved
to the heavens as a guardian angel for all.
